BE Ugly ‘07. Name of hurricane? New rock band? Fashion line? No, it’s just another campaign launched in the United States.
Its purpose is to steer young women away from the current coercion to conform to conventional beauty norms. In an effort to authorise uncritical self-esteem and to educate young girls on “positive body imaging acceptance”, this campaign hopes to show women that they can be themselves – whatever their dress size, hair colour, breast or waist measurement. All inspired by a TV series, and not a particularly notable one either.
