The young EDM artiste is the first under the age of 25 to reach one billion streams on Spotify.
With his hit songs Wake Me Up and Addicted To You, the young EDM artiste is the first under age 25 to reach one billion streams on Spotify, securing his position as the most influential young artist in the platform’s ranking.
“This has been such an incredible year, and taking the top spot on Spotify’s 25 Under 25 (just a few months before my 25th birthday!) is unbelievable,” Avicii gushed upon hearing the news.
“I truly love what I do and I’m so grateful to my fans and to Spotify for being such enthusiastic supporters of my music.”
The Swedish DJ is followed closely by Lorde, whose popularity on Spotify skyrocketed thanks to her hit song Royals. The 17-year-old singer’s latest single, Team, has already been streamed 80 million times by the platform’s users worldwide.

In third place is the notorious Miley Cyrus, who clocks in over 1.5 million streams per day on the site, in large part due to last year’s hit songs Wrecking Ball and We Can’t Stop.
With one million plays per day, One Direction is just behind in fourth place. Just as predictably, Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber also made it onto the list, each with around 800,000 streams daily.
In addition to looking at the number of streams per artiste, Spotify took into account a number of other factors for its ranking, including growth in streams shares over the past year. — AFP Relaxnews
