Kuala Lumpur is one of the best destinations to head to if you're looking for a gastronomy travel experience in 2023 ... says popular international travel guide Lonely Planet.

The publisher has just released its "Best In Travel 2023" list, an extensive annual collection that travellers and tourism industry players all around the world look forward to reading. Malaysia, or specifically the capital city of KL, was added in its "Eat" category, featuring five other places with gastronomy offerings that are worth checking out.

The other destinations are Lima in Peru, Umbria in Italy, Fukuoka in Japan, Montevido in Uruguay and the country of South Africa.

For KL, Lonely Planet writes: "Don’t sleep on the food scene in Kuala Lumpur. This Asian metropolis is one for the senses including your palate. Food stall-lined streets, markets with delicious snacks, and lively nightlife scene put this Malaysian capital city on our list for places to eat."

We agree, whole-heartedly.

There are two featured articles linked to KL, one of which is a guide on how to eat your way through the city in a single day. The list also dives into the topic of food, crafted by the locals who know the place like the back of their hands.

Among the dishes listed in the articles are classic dishes such as nasi lemak, Penang-style curries and the Peranakan fish maw soup.

Besides Eat, the other four categories in the Best In Travel List include Journey, Unwind, Learn and Connect.

The Best In Travel list was put together by travel experts and industry players from around the globe, as well as locals of each destination.Malaysia’s diverse culture and cuisine definitely makes it an interesting gastronomy destination.
