The Johor state government will further improve its tourism development plan within 10 years, to include tourism in its islands to boost the sector.

State Tourism, Youth and Sports Committee chairman Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said each district in Johor has its own tourist attractions, and some of them include beautiful islands located in Mersing district.

He said both the planning stage and the launch are expected to take place next year so that the state will have a direction in the tourism sector.

'’Actually, we in Johor had tourism plans previously. So now we will continue with improvements for the long term so that tourists to this state will always have a reference to the interesting places here.

"This long-term planning also covers all districts in the state. It has the cooperation of the federal government to develop existing tourism products as well as those with potential to be developed," he said during a recent media familiarisation trip for Johor. The event is aimed at promoting the islands, especially in Mersing district which has 93 islands.
He said the trip, attended by 23 local media practitioners, will be visiting several islands in Mersing this week.

"Among the islands to be visited include Pulau Aur, Pulau Dayang, Pulau Pemanggil, Pulau Besar, Pulau Rawa, Pulau Harimau and several others which have their own attractions.’’

Apart from that, the media will also visit tourist attractions in Kota Tinggi district.

"We also hope that with the media’s participation, we will be able to promote and boost tourism in Johor and the state will become an international tourist destination," he added. – Bernama
