The launch of Enrich Hotels comes in time for Visit Malaysia 2020. — The Star

Travellers now have another option to book their accommodation with the introduction of Enrich Hotels. The digital booking platform lists over 400,000 properties that run the gamut from boutique hotels to international resorts.

It is an initiative by Enrich, the frequent flyer programme of Malaysia Airlines. What this means is that Enrich members would be able to redeem free hotel stay with their miles.

Members can earn up to 15,000 Enrich Miles for every night of their stay or redeem for free or discounted room stay from as low as 1,000 Enrich Miles.

At the launch, Malaysia Airlines head (Enrich and Loyalty) Amiroel Shazrie Yussof said the frequent flyer programme has transitioned to be more “lifestyle-based benefits” throughout the year.

“Enrich has invested heavily on digitalisation in 2019 to enhance members’ experience, customer experience and to keep up with the current trends, ” he said, adding that apart from hotel stays, members can also redeem shopping vouchers and dining experiences.

According to Amiroel, the launch of Enrich Hotels is also in time for the Visit Malaysia 2020 (VM2020) campaign that is taking place next year.

Malaysia is expecting 30 million international tourist arrivals in 2020, with total tourist receipts of RM100bil.

VM2020 is the fifth edition under the Visit Malaysia tourism campaign; the first was in 1990, which was also launched by the then (and now, current) Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Recently, the frequent flyer programme also partnered with homegrown travel platform LokaLocal.

Enrich members can earn miles when they participate in LokaLocal’s tours and activities. Some experiential listings include cultural workshops, craft classes, heritage walks, cooking classes, private dining and adventure tours.

To celebrate this partnership, members can earn extra miles when they book on the LokaLocal website from now until the end February 2020.

In a press statement, Malaysia Airlines group chief marketing and customer experience officer Lau Yin May said: “Selecting the suitable rewards partner to collaborate is key in ensuring we deliver the right products and experiences to our members. LokaLocal compliments our brand promise of Malaysian hospitality, where members can immerse themselves in authentic experiences and learn about Malaysia’s rich culture and heritage.”

LokaLocal connects travellers to Malaysian experiences hosted by locals. The company currently offers over 500 activities and day tours across various states in the country. Transport arrangements, accommodation and group bookings are also available on the website.
