Museum sleepover: Spend a night in an Edward Hopper painting

By AGENCY

Edward Hopper's 'Western Motel' (oil on canvas, 1957). As part of an exhibition called “Edward Hopper And The American Hotel,” the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) is constructing a real, live motel room modelled on the artwork that you can actually book for a night.

As part of the exhibition, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts will recreate his painting Western Motel in 3D.

In Western Motel, a woman sits on the bed of an anonymous motel room devoid of personal objects. She stares across the room with poised detachment, a car is parked just outside the window.
