Travelling as a family certainly has its rewards. For one, it’s a great idea that bonds the family together as a unit. It can sometimes be challenging, however, to travel in a family unit – especially when your family is made up of members from different age groups.
Taking this into consideration, you would be hard pressed to find a better option than going on a cruise, which has a little something for every member of the family.
An excellent cruise line not only boasts the full range of services offered by quality hotels, it does so in an incomparable setting onboard with exciting activities that will keep everyone occupied and happy.
Moreover, here in Malaysia, you need not look far for cruise liners that offer a wealth of activities and services that meet the needs of discerning passengers.
A good choice is the Royal Caribbean International, which recently revealed a US$97mil new look for the debut of its amplified ship, Voyager of the Seas, in the region this fall.
The ship will present an exciting combination of features that will promise unforgettable experiences for the whole family, as it sails forth from Singapore this year-end and next summer.
Royal Caribbean is known worldwide for its range of kid-friendly programmes and activity events. In fact, just March this year, website CruiseCritic named the cruise liner the top on its best cruise for kids list.
Children onboard are grouped according to their age groups, making it easier for them to interact and play with their peers.
Even impressionable teenage passengers, aged 12-14 or aged 15-17, can join programmes created to meet their expectations, with the added benefit of purpose-built spaces to help them relax.
Among the facilities especially popular with teens are the cruise ship’s exclusive and updated hangout, as well as the laid-back outdoor deck.
And when it comes to activities for the whole family, the Voyager of the Seas has just added new hits that have never been seen before in Asia, including “The Perfect Storm”.
The attraction, featuring the waterslide duo Typhoon and Cyclone, will challenge thrill-seeking passengers to test their limits in a high speed waterslide race.
While the new addition is set to bring more excitement into the mix, the cruise ship will also house classic favourites such as the FlowRider surf simulation, a rock-climbing wall, and a mini-golf course to ensure you and your family make the most of your time onboard.
Passengers can also opt to try out the fast-paced “Battle for Planet Z” laser tag challenge. The interactive game has quickly become a staple on Royal Caribbean ships with its glow-in-the-dark adventure in Studio B.
The action-packed activity sees players transforming into either aliens or robots, going head-to-head to claim the last planet of a far-flung galaxy.
Beyond the addition of new attractions, the redesign of Voyager of the Seas’ overall spaces also mean that parents can be rest assured that their children, from toddlers to teens, have more to enjoy.
One of these newly introduced areas is the award-winning Adventure Ocean, which features an open layout jam-packed with whimsical activities at every corner, where kids ranging from three- to 11-years old can have fun in a modern, free-play approach.
The Voyager of the Seas will also be fitted with a nursery for babies and tots, which is a first.
Parents, on the other hand, can look forward to a time of relaxation, thanks to the ship’s “Vitality Spa and Fitness Centre”.
Relocated to the aft of the ship, the enhanced spa and gym offers an extensive menu of signature services for your enjoyment. Among those on offer include massages, acupuncture, manicures, fitness classes and personal training sessions.
Head to the poolside in the “Solarium” if you need some ‘downtime’ to unwind, as it is open all-day for adults-only tranquility.
Apart from the upgrade of the facilities, a highlight coming to Voyager of the Seas is the new-and-improved accommodation. The cruise ship features 72 new inside and balcony staterooms, a suite lounge and an exclusive outdoor area for special guests in the Grand Suites and above.
In addition, a Diamond Lounge will greet members of Royal Caribbean’s Crown and Anchor Society loyalty programme.
Modern way to cruise
Following in the wake of the revamp of Voyager of the Seas will be a new mobile app from Royal Caribbean International, which will allow you to check in for your cruise vacation using their smartphones.
Once onboard, the app has a host of functions for your convenience, ranging from exploring and planning activities for each day of the itinerary and viewing onboard expenses, to booking and managing dining, shore excursion and show reservations.
Singapore’s new 2020 summer deployment
Voyager of the Seas will be the fourth ship reimagined as part of the modernisation efforts for the Royal Amplified fleet, built on research and guest feedback.
The cruise line has invested more than US$1bil (RM4.2bil) to revamp 10 ships in four years, touching on every facet of your guest experience.
It introduces a variety of bold adventures that will appeal to every generation and represents Royal Caribbean’s passion for innovation, relentless attention to detail and commitment to delivering unforgettable vacations.
Beginning Oct 21, the newly transformed ship will set sail a series of three- to five-night Southeast Asian itineraries, with seven sailings from Singapore to Penang, Phuket and Kuala Lumpur (Port Klang).
A popular destination included in the itinerary is Melaka, where it will be sailing to in the same month. This will be followed by a season Down Under with nine- to 12-night South Pacific cruises from Sydney, Australia, starting Nov 30.
The itinerary highlights from Singapore has seven sailing dates this year, including:
• 3-nights Kuala Lumpur (Port Klang) and Melaka Cruise, Oct 25, Nov 1, Nov 8
• 4-nights Phuket and Penang Cruise, Oct 21 and 28, Nov 4
