If watching planes go by in the sky sounds like an awfully romantic idea, you can do it now at the country’s first outdoor plane observation deck. Located at Jalan Pekeliling next to Runway 32 Left (32L), the venue is the latest hotspot for guests at KL International Airport (KLIA).
The deck named “Anjung Spotter” is constructed within the 10km x 10km perimeters of the airport. It is the brainchild of Malaysia Airports’ social media team who listened and worked closely with friends from the aviation community.
Malaysia Airports group chief executive officer Raja Azmi Raja Nazuddin said the outdoor observation deck will serve to elevate the airport experience at KLIA and create joyful memories.
“In the old days, we used to see entire families enjoying scrumptious meals near the airport while they watch planes fly past them. It was one of the most wonderful family past times for Malaysians,” he said.
“Planespotters” and aviation aficionados will be delighted to know that they now have a perfect view of aircraft arriving through Runway 32L from the deck.
“These days, young enthusiastic planespotters armed with cameras are spending their evenings near airports across the nation just to take priceless shots of the beautiful flying machines,” Raja Azmi said.
The new elevated facility can accommodate up to 40 people at one time. Visitors will be able to enjoy and capture panoramic moments of various aircraft taking off and landing from a strategic location.
Moving forward, Malaysia Airports will identify more locations at its network of airports to build similar observation decks.
