Bigger and better: AirAsia converts order from A320neo to A321neo

Starting Aug 9, AirAsia – in an act of protest – will be collecting the increased Passenger Service Charge (PSC) levied by Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB). Passengers will need to pay an additional RM23 in PSC.

AirAsia has converted its order of 253 Airbus planes from the A320neo to the larger A321neo.

This means that the airline will be able to increase its flight capacity in the future, to cater to the continuously strong demand, said AirAsia Group Berhad executive chairman Datuk Kamarudin Meranun said in a statement. “We have spent a number of years reviewing what the future of our operations will look like. With the numerous efficiency benefits and the operational flexibility this aircraft brings, the A321neo will be the new backbone of our operations as we continue to expand to meet growing air travel demand across Asia,” he said.
