Watch: Malaysia Airlines and AirAsia CNY videos will make you laugh and cry

Two local airlines are stressing the spirit of togetherness this Chinese New Year with heartwarming videos. Both Malaysia Airlines and AirAsia have released short productions that highlight the importance of family values this Year Of The Pig.

Malaysia Airlines released a special festive video, highlighting the most important tradition surrounding the festivity, the reunion.

The two-and-a-half minute video titled The Spirit of Hospitality tells a story of a Malaysia Airlines cabin crew, who had just returned from his duty while he waits for his sister at the airport. To pass the time, he meets some travellers and lets his Malaysian hospitality shine through the journeys of others.

Malaysia Airlines group chief executive officer Captain Izham Ismail said the carrier works hard to ensure that festive travels are done as seamlessly as possible.

“This is perfectly captured in our Chinese New Year video which is centered around reunions, and gestures of kindness in making every traveller’s journey to their destination, a great one,” he said.

The celebration continues onboard as the airline will also be offering special New Year dishes on selected flights to London, Hong Kong, Taipei and China from Feb 3 to 10.

These include traditional yee sang with salmon tataki (appetiser), fried garoupa with roselle flower or tofu and vegetable balls with ginkgo nut, served with steamed rice as main course for Business Class and Business Suite guests.

Economy Class guests will also be able to enjoy yee sang with jelly fish (appetiser) and sweet & sour fish or chicken with sesame sour plum sauce served with rice.

Meanwhile, AirAsia took on a zanier approach to its The Perfect Lou Sang video.

The slightly over four minute production depict a family preparing to toss yee sang at a reunion dinner. In the video, the matriarch of a family enlist the help of her “goddaughters”, who happened to be AirAsia stewardess, to instil some sense in her unruly family members.

The video tackled the obsession with social media and is made funnier with larger-than-life characters.

Both videos can be viewed on the airlines’ respective official YouTube channels.
