Brace yourselves, loyal Nintendo fans. Universal Parks and Resorts will be bringing the world of Mario and Luigi to life with the opening of Nintendo-themed areas at their parks in Japan, Orlando and Hollywood.
While details are sparse, developers at Nintendo and Universal announced that planning for the areas is well underway and that they will open separately over the next several years.
The collaboration was first announced last spring, but the locations were kept under wraps. In an updated announcement, Universal's Mark Woodbury and Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto revealed that the Nintendo-themed spaces will open at Universal Studios Japan, Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood.
From the video announcement and press release, it appears that the most iconic Nintendo character, Mario, will anchor the space, with allusions made to Piranha Plants, question blocks and power-ups.
As expected, the space will be expansive, immersive and interactive. Visitors will be made to feel as though they're playing a life-sized version of their favourite video game in real life.
“When they're transported into that world and they stand there for a moment and see it in front of them, as if they had just walked into the game platform, I think that's going to be an exciting time,” said Mark Woodbury of Universal Creative in the promo vid.
An official Universal Orlando blog post also shed some light on the project.
“The goal of everyone on this project is clear. To bring the characters, action and adventure of Nintendo video games to life within Universal theme parks. And to do so in new and innovative ways that capture what makes them so special.”
Anticipation will be high for the Nintendo theme park, given Universal's critically acclaimed, runaway success with the recreations of the Harry Potter world. – AFP Relaxnews
