Making our way along a winding hillside path, a charming landscape of green rolling hills greeted us just as the sun was about to set at about a quarter past five. A slight drizzle welcomed us too as we pulled up at the reception to get the keys to our chalet that was described as “fully self-contained and constructed from local rammed earth, finished with cedar and pine” for the next two nights. The temperature was quickly dropping below 10°C, a sign of the Australian winter.
We had arrived at Ferguson Farmstay, an approximate two hours’ drive south of Perth in the south-west of Western Australia. Ferguson Valley may not be as well-known as its counterpart Margaret River, but it offers a myriad of attractions including micro-breweries, wineries, art galleries and boutique cottage industries to pique your interest.
