In an informal study of the most popular travel- and leisure-related emoji on Twitter, Wisconsin has emerged as the top wine-drinking state while Connecticut, it seems, loves its cocktails.
After looking at a random sample of 581,000 geolocated tweets, the wine glass emoji was the most popular in Wisconsin, while the martini glass was the top tweeted symbol in Connecticut, according to discount travel site Hotwire.com.
Results are charted on a map of the US that plots the most popular travel- and leisure-related emoji by state.
According to the map, the best places for leaf-peeping include Ohio, Rhode Island, Oklahoma and Nebraska, where leaves were among the top-tweeted emoji.
The most popular state for camping, meanwhile, is Wyoming, which tweets about tents the most.
Minnesota, Vermont and Virginia shared a love of beer, while pizza was the top-tweeted emoticon, not in Chicago or New York, but in Michigan.
Here are a few other results:
> In Nevada, the top tweeted emoji is the slot machine, with either a happy or sad face, depending on the user’s luck.
> The plane is the most popular emoji in Florida, the popular destination for snowbirds.
> And Pennsylvania is most tweet-happy for coffee.
Meanwhile, Finland’s government released a set of emoji meant to represent the country, including a Nokia handphone, a long-haired headbanger, and a man and a woman enjoying a sauna. – AFP Relaxnews
