Niseko is well-known for its skiing and snowboarding activities and stunning scenery. The Japanese powder-ski resort is one of the finest in the world. It is popular among a wealthier clientele. So finding a nice, plush accommodation in the high-end district of Niseko that won’t burn a big hole in one’s pocket can be a challenge for budget travellers.
Thanks to the Low Yat Group of Malaysia, however, that search might well be over. On Dec 1, MY ecolodge opened its doors to guests, becoming the town’s newest and most sustainable boutique lodge.
This lodge caters mainly to the needs of students, groups and budget travellers. It offers well-maintained amenities, including free high-speed WiFi. There’s also great food available.
Present at the opening ceremony were Mayor of Kutchan, Seiji Fukushima; Mayor of Niseko, Kenya Katayama; and MY ecolodge director Low Su Ming, as well as many members of the Niseko community.
The opening celebration was accompanied by Japanese drum beats and the traditional “breaking the sake barrel” moment, followed by the energetic Sanbon Shime, a rhythmic clapping of hands customary to Japanese culture.
It is a designer-inspired hostel, environmentally friendly with many eco attributes incorporated into the architecture and services, ensuring the beautiful nature that Niseko is so famous for remains green into the future. It offers guests a modern, clean and safe environment with all the facilities of a five-star ski resort – at a fraction of the price.
MY ecolodge extends value-added packages to those on school educational trips or on corporate retreats.
It is managed by Fairlane Hospitality, which is currently managing Shiki Niseko, a five-star resort at a nearby location. – S.S. Yoga
