It was almost like time travel. Stepping into the exquisite grounds of the Suiran, A Luxury Collection Hotel in Kyoto, I felt like I had been transported back to feudal Japan.
Indeed, I had to hold my breath in wonder as I entered through its traditional-looking thatched gate, beneath a wooden board bearing the hotel’s name in kanji. Walking through its lush gardens, complete with hundred-year-old pines and traditional stone structures, I almost expected a samurai to step out and challenge me.
