It was almost midnight when we arrived in the Maldives. After a refreshing welcome drink, we turned in as we were tired out from the four-and-a-half-hour flight from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport to the Ibrahim Nasir International Airport, Male, and the 45-minute speedboat ride to Bodufinolhu Island, South Male Atoll where the Fun Island Resort was located.
The Maldives is an island nation comprising 26 natural atolls (or chains of islands) in the Indian Ocean-Arabian Sea. There are an estimated 1,192 islands but only 192 are inhabited. At an average of 1.5m above sea level, it is the lowest-lying country on the planet.
