The first three-dimensional pavement art festival in the Middle East took place recently in Dubai, featuring works that appear to rise from the ground, its organisers said. The week-long Dubai Canvas Festival featured 3D artworks by international artists, and were done in chalk or paint, many depicting eye-catching images of the Emirati city.

Kurt Wenner, creator of the 3D pavement painting technique, said Dubai’s setting provided a “wonderful” chance to incorporate art into the city's ever-expanding landscape.
