Feeling right at home at Vistana

It is simplicity at its finest at the Vistana Kuala Lumpur Titiwangsa hotel.

IF there’s one thing I can say about the newly revamped Vistana Kuala Lumpur Titiwangsa hotel, it is “don’t judge a book by its cover”.

Despite its minimalist yet contemporary design, the 19-year-old estabishment exudes a certain comfortable vibe that is sure to make you feel right at home.

Along with their refurbished look, they have a new ethos, “Vibrance, Verve and Value”, which serves as a promise of a relaxed environment and great service, all at competitive prices.

True enough, from the warm smiles that greet you as you enter the hotel to the friendly people at the reception counter who go out of their way to personally greet you (their new island counters have walking spaces in between them), everyone is just so welcoming and pleasant.

Besides the reception counters, Vistana KL’s lobby has a huge staircase that leads to the meeting rooms on the second floor.

But none of this would be possible without an inviting atmosphere to complement the amenities.

The idea is the brainchild of architect Zaidan Tahir, who wanted to create a refreshing experience for guests.

According to duty manager Ivy Ng, the hotel was uniquely conceptualised to imitate the cycle of a day.

Starting bright on the first three floors of the hotel, the latest design allows natural light to permeate the lobby and the 12 meeting rooms.

And as you head upstairs to any of the 360 Executive Deluxe rooms and two Executive Suites, it has a sundown hue that encourages guests to unwind after a long day.

If you desire a bigger living space, you might want to opt for the Suite that comes with a separate living hall. If not, the Deluxe works just fine.

I have to say, the contrast between the dark-coloured wallpaper and the huge white bed gives the room an understated elegance.

The Executive Deluxe room is pleasant and comfortable, with a luxurious ‘five-star’ bed.

And may I add that the feather-topped bed is just heavenly?

The bed was so soft that I drifted into deep sleep almost immediately and it was near impossible for me to get out of it the next morning.

But I had to! I wanted to try out the rainforest showerheads that replaced the bathtubs as well as the Mangosteen Basics shampoo.

It’s the Malaysian toiletry brand’s hospitality debut as the Vistana brand is the only one that carries it now.

I found it so soothing, calming and revitalising.

However, the icing on the cake has to be the view as I could see KL, including the glorious and iconic KL Tower, from my room. Whether it’s during the day or at night, the view is just lovely.

The restaurant serves local and international dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

With a stunning sight like that, it’s hard to imagine not hosting an event there.

For a grand affair like a wedding or other social events, the banquet hall that overlooks the pool can hold about 30 tables for a sit-down event (that’s a total of 300 folks) or 500 people for a cocktail party while the largest meeting room can hold up to 35 people for a business meeting.

If you’re one of those who needs coffee to start your day, a WiFi connection to stay in touch with the outside world or the gym for a good workout session, there are the hotel’s newest additions – Barista, a grab-and-go coffee bar; HUB 247, a business hub and a fitness centre.

It’s clear that the hotel’s recent facelift was done with the guests in mind.

Affordable coffee, and the 24-hour gym that is equipped with FreeMotion Fitness equipment are easily accessible and especially handy for those who plan to stay on for months.

Yes, apparently that has happened before, mentioned Ng.

It took a whole year to conceptualise and complete the refurbishment of the hotel.

I can’t stress enough that the WiFi here is complimentary and available throughout the hotel, even at the pool, so you can bring your laptop if you need to work there.

At the pool, towels are available at the end of your seat or on a small table located in a corner.

There’s also the Café restaurant next to the lobby, with a wide selection of Western and Asian food that includes Vietnamese pho, congee, braised herb beef, salmon benedict and chicken rendang.

The hotel is well located, with restaurants, a medical centre, a laundromat and convenience stores just five minutes away.

It’s also a breeze to explore KL from here because you can easily hail a cab, catch a bus, the Light Rail Transit (LRT) or the monorail, given that the hotel is just 15 minutes away from the KL Convention Centre (via LRT) and six minutes away from the Bukit Bintang Golden Triangle (via monorail).

Now that’s one easy and efficient way to discover KL.
