On any given year, in the two weeks leading up to the eve of Chinese New Year, Sereen Eng’s nail parlour in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur, would be bustling with customers, its appointment slots booked to the brim.

This year, the doors to Posh Nail Spa, and nail parlours located within areas under the movement control order have remained shut throughout the first two weeks of the new Chinese calendar.
