H&M and Giambattista Valli are working on a fashion collection. The Italian haute couture designer and the Swedish retailer announced the news at the amfAR gala in Cannes on Thursday night (May 23).
The event saw Valli and Ann-Sofie Johansson (H&M's creative advisor) walk the red carpet together, alongside supermodel Kendall Jenner, singer Chris Lee (Li Yuchun), influencer Chiara Ferragni, recording artist H.E.R., model and actress Bianca Brandolini d'Adda and singer Ross Lynch.
The main Giambattista Valli x H&M collection will launch on Nov 7, but fashion fans are being given an early taster of what's in store with a nine-piece series (plus some accessories) that will go on sale in selected stores and online on May 25, as part of a unique limited-edition pre-drop.
The mini collection will encompass the looks seen on Jenner and co on the red carpet, and hints at a romantic, dreamy aesthetic, featuring a frothy, full-length fuschia gown, a baby pink ruched skirt and a pale pink lace dress.
"I am excited about this collaboration: H&M gives me the opportunity to bring my vision of style and my celebration of beauty to a wider audience," said the Paris-based Valli in a statement.
"The goal is to share my love for beauty and to be able to be part of everyone's 'happy moments,' to help create love stories all around the world."
Johansson, meanwhile, referred to the creative as "the undisputed master of haute couture with a knack for the memorable silhouette".
She added: "To be able to bring his signature styles to our customers is a dream come true. We can't wait to see their reactions to this beautiful collection."
Since launching his eponymous line in Paris in 2005, Valli has carved out a global reputation for his iconic haute couture, ready-to-wear and accessories. The partnership with H&M marks the creative's first foray into menswear.
Fast fashion giant H&M's luxury collaborations have become the stuff of fashion legend, with recent designer partnerships including the Italian house of Moschino and the high-end lingerie label Love Stories.
Previous big-name collaborations have included Karl Lagerfeld, Kenzo and Balmain. – AFP Relaxnews
