Fashion month is well underway, and the verdict is in: this season is all about schoolgirl hair accessories – namely, the bow. Bows have seen a major fashion revival recently as a runway hair accessory, appearing in some of the biggest fashion shows in the business, and there is no easier way to style them than as a cute hairpiece.
Never one to do things by halves, designer Jeremy Scott took the hair bow trend to extremes at his recent New York show, where the models sported oversized monochrome bows in black and white as elaborate headpieces.
A similar approach was also taken by the hairstylist Alex Brownsell at Ashley Williams in London – where embellished head wraps were topped off with cartoon-like bows for a playful vibe.
For a softer take on the trend, look no further than Veronica Beard, whose New York show featured low ponytails with natural textures, held in place by luxurious satin ribbons. This grown-up version of the look saw the bows knotted low and nonchalantly, lending a hint of upmarket bohemia to the overall effect.
The trend was also more laidback at Molly Goddard, whose London show saw the models' hair styled into a chunky ponytail by a ribbon that was wound around the head like a headband, before being wrapped and knotted over the hair and finished off with the tiniest of bows.
Even more discreet were the bows at Anna Sui's New York presentation, which were nestled into technicolor wigs that kept them slightly camouflaged, while at Gayeon Lee, silk scarves were knotted intricately into chignons for a subtle nod to the trend. – AFP Relaxnews
