With the year end close at hand, it is time to look forward to what the current Pre-Spring season can offer in terms of menswear. From the quirky and luridly bold, to classic elegance and sophistication, here’s a pick of the standouts.
For Givenchy’s Pre-Spring 2019 menswear, artistic director Clare Waight Keller looked to the 1980s and 90s for inspiration. The designs are however, given a twist with the infusion of a Japanese aesthetic.
Sporty yet classic, youthful but sophisticated. The seasonal statement pieces include a reversible embroidered tour jacket, a houndstooth car coat and a 4G evening jacket in silk jacquard.
Bold Or Nothing
There is no such thing as “too much” when it comes to fashion. That is the message that Gucci is sending out with its collection of lace-up skinny pants, metallic bell-bottoms, sequined pullovers and other eclectic garments.
In the lookbook, the pieces appeared as out of place against the sunny backdrop of beaches, palm trees, lounge chairs and yachts. But hey, that seems to be just another average day for a Gucci man on vacation.
Salvatore Ferragamo has reinvented some of its well-loved silhouettes for the season. Materials such as cashmere, silk, suede and denim all come together to offer a luxe, tactile appeal.
Creative director of menswear, Guillaume Meilland, offers an escape from the city streets with his designs. Relaxed cuts are seen pairing nicely with the ease that can only result from a slow-paced life.
Balmain is taking the edgier route this Pre-Spring with a collection that incorporates elements of both urban luxury and bohemian attitude, as well as modern daring and rugged sophistication.
The campaign, shot below a never-ending sky and atop one of the many parking ramps that ring the edges of Paris, breaks from conventions and shows a new, streetwise side to the label.
Enter The Circus
Moschino’s collection is all about showmanship. From animal tamers to clowns and trapeze artists, the designs brought the circus to town and offered a quirky take on fun fashion.
“I see my role in fashion as bringing the fun,” creative director Jeremy Scott stated during the label’s runway presentation, adding, “And what could be more fun than a circus?”
