Decorative detailing with utilitarian touches. Luxurious fabrics such as brocade, tulle and taffeta, played up with shades of melon and sage. Elaborate buckles and oversized pockets.
Those elements and much more are beautifully hamonised in Khoon Hooi’s Spring 2018 collection. The Malaysian couturier’s latest ready-to-wear designs speak of a soft femininity.
Making an appearance are feathers and hand-stitched jewel-toned crystals. It is hard to miss the embellishments, as they decorates key pieces such as a statement safari-inspired evening dress.
While a beautiful tulle and taffeta gown sports an oversized crystal-encrusted buckle, other designs like an elegant acid floral frock dazzle with elaborate crystal beadwork “badges”.
The use of corsetry sets the tone for the collection, as well. Brocade-embellished corsets are fitted over dresses and voluminous white blouses to accentuate the waistline. Other distinct looks from Khoon Hooi for the season include exaggerated sleeves, tulle layering and asymmetrical necklines.
