Omega has chosen its Seamaster to commemorate the 2018 Olympic Games in Pyeongchang. Pictured here is the limited edition Planet Ocean timepiece.

Omega first served as official timekeeper of the 1936 Olympic Winter Games in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. For that occasion, a single technician was sent with 27 stopwatches to time every second.

Ever since then, the watchmaker has continuously developed its technology for the role. It is timing the 2018 Winter Olympics, which kicks off today in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Omega has release limited edition designs of the Seamaster wristwatches to commemorate the occasion – the “Pyeongchang 2018” Planet Ocean and Aqua Terra models.

The Planet Ocean’s blue and red design is not only aesthetically striking, it has rhodium-plated indexes coated with white Super-LumiNova that emits a blue glow. These same qualities are shared by the hour and seconds hands.

The watch also has a ceramic dial and the minute hand, in line with the dot on the bezel, emits a green glow. A diving bezel features the world’s first polished blue ceramic ring with rubber and Omega Liquidmetal diving scale.

Seamaster Aqua Terra “Pyeongchang 2018” Limited Edition.

An alveol-patterned screw-in caseback is engraved with words in blue marking it as a special edition. The beating heart of the timepiece is the Omega Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8900.

Omega’s Aqua Terra model sports the five colours of the iconic Olympic Rings, with the words “Pyeongchang 2018” inscribed on the minute track of the dial. The 20 and the 18 are perfectly aligned with the exact minute indexes.

The timepiece, including the case and the metal bracelet, has been created in stainless steel. The typical “teak concept” pattern of the Aqua Terra dial is included and, at its heart, the watch is powered by the Master Co-Axial movement 8500.
