Lupita Nyongo poses at the premiere of Black Panther in Los Angeles, California.

While the upcoming Black Panther film is centred around one of Marvel’s greatest male superheroes, it was the ladies who dominated the night at its recent premiere in Los Angeles, California. The dress-code for the night called for “royal attire”. And the stars turned up in their fiercest, most regal outfits to mark the highly-anticipated film’s release (set for Feb 15).

Here’s a look at the top five looks.

Black Panther red carpet

Issa Rae

Rae’s Rosie Assoulin Resort 2018 dress shimmered on the red carpet. The shiny rainbow panelling's colours provided just a right amount of contrast to the minimal white dress.

Black Panther red carpet

Tessa Thompson

Looking demure, but no less elegant, was Thompson, wearing Ellie Saab. The design is from the Pre-Fall 2018 collection, pairing a flowy tunic with beaded cigarette trousers.

Black Panther red carpet

Angela Bassett

Bassett stood tall in a bright yellow Naeem Khan jumpsuit. “It’s all about colours, all about heat, and I think we’re bringing that tonight on the purple carpet,” she said, when speaking to the media.

Black Panther red carpet

Janelle Monae

Monae arrived in a black Christian Siriano gown with billowing white and blue sleeves. She even added a “crown” to her look, which came in the form of an African kufi hat.

Black Panther red carpet

Lupita Nyong’o

Nyong’o has a reputation for being a red carpet standout. The star looked simply breathtaking in a Versace dress with plunging neckline and jewel-accented gold harness.
