In September, Versace reunited some of history’s most recognisable top models for a Spring/Summer 2018 runway show. It was a nostalgic ode to the late Gianni Versace, and paid tribute to a more flashy era in fashion.
The show closed with five of Gianni’s favourites: Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer, Cindy Crawford, Helena Christensen and Carla Bruni. It made headlines around the world, drove the internet wild.
The designer label is now bringing about the same excitement with its campaign for the season. Recently unveiled, the ads feature a lineup of famous faces – from legendary supermodels to up-and-coming stars.
Campbell, along with Christy Turlington, Natalia Vodianova, Giselle Bunchen, Gigi Hadid, Kaia Gerber, Raquel Zimmerman, Irina Shayk and Vittoria Ceretti, among many others, were included in the ads.
Creative director Donatella Versace says the campaign represents a bridge between past and present. This is why she wanted Campbell, Bunchen and Turlington next to Gerber and Ceretti: iconic top models next to the new generation.
“You need to know who you are and where you come from to be able to build your future, and when you are at the head of a company like Versace with such a strong heritage, you can’t but embrace it.”
Shot by renowned photographer Steven Meisel, the images portray each girl with different hair and make-up, reflecting unique personalities. The campaign also celebrates women, conveying a message of femininity.
“What makes me a fan of Versace is the way it celebrates women. Versace portrays an image of strength and empowerment that I’ve always looked up to,” notes Gerber, who is the daughter of Crawford.
“I felt great pride to be included in a cast of women I love, some of whom ‘made’ Versace for me growing up – the women who brought Gianni’s visions to life,” states Hadid.
Bundchen adds: “It was so special to be a part of this campaign and to spend the day with Donatella and Steven who have been incredibly generous and kind with me since the beginning of my career.”
