Melvita Damask Rose Floral Water Hydrating, RM138
Melvita’s Damask Rose Floral Water is natural and organic, so I was happy to try it out. I love the fragrance of roses, and so this was a joy for me to spritz on this scented water to revitalise the skin on my face and neck.
Especially in our hot and humid weather, something like this is welcome as you can freshen up quickly wherever you are. It also works well as a toner, make-up remover, or really just to pamper yourself a little by soaking a bit of cotton wool and applying onto the skin.
I initially thought the rose scent would be too overpowering, but it quickly blends in leaving your skin feeling lovely. At Indian weddings, guests are usually heartily welcomed by sprinkling rose water on them – because rose water not only smells good, it is said to have many curative properties for eczema and dermatitis. This spray made me think of that and felt like I was inviting goodness upon myself. – Ann Marie Chandy
Urban Decay All Nighter Long Lasting Makeup Setting Spray, RM130
Many local make-up artists I know have raved about this setting spray. So naturally, I was eager to try it out – make-up artists know best, after all.
This product boasts a patented Temperature Control Technology, which lowers the temperature of your make-up to keep it all in place for up to 16 hours – even in the face of sweltering conditions like we often encounter here in Malaysia.
I spritzed it in the morning after my make-up and the light mist left my face looking matte and mighty fine. Fast forward 12 hours later, I caught my reflection in an elevator mirror and was happy to see slightly glowing skin instead of my usual oil-slicked face by evening.
There was also no cracking and fading – all the colours were still visible. I touched my face and was very pleased to find there was no dreaded grease or any other kind of transfer. With my oily forehead, nose, and cheeks, I must say that this setting spray works like a dream. – Aisya Yusri
Grown Alchemist Hydra-Mist+ Desert Lime & Amino-Peptide, RM99
I love mist products but at first spritz this product didn’t win me over as I was put off by the herbal medicinal scent that hit my face. This advanced facial hydrating mist has potent peptides, hyaluronic acid and antioxidants to hydrate, soften and leave skin looking younger. I used it alone on clean skin at night for two weeks just to see the effects. The next morning my skin felt moisturised and extremely soft, and fortunately I got used to the scent. With time constraints, I didn’t use this long enough to see its overall anti-ageing effects, but the thought of 20 plant extracts and safe ingredients flooding and rejuvenating my skin is reassuring! While the glass bottle is safe and eco-friendly, at 30ml it’s still pretty heavy to lug around. – Sandra Low
Laneige Water Science Mist Clear C (Anti-oxidant), RM79
I am a regular user of mist sprays; there is always one on my dressing table at home and another on my office desk. Nothing refreshes the mien better than a hydrating mist spray. And this comes from my favourite Korean brand! One of seven sprays released by Laneige, it contains super berry extract, which has four times more anti-oxidant effect than vitamin C. The pump that comes with the bottle produces a fine, even mist that covers over a good area. The scent is pleasant and not overpowering. I use three to four “shots” in the morning before leaving the house; thus far, it works well in moisturising my (normally sensitive) skin. In terms of packaging, I like its minimalist bottle and bold choice of colour. – William K.C. Kee
Caudalie Grape Water (Soothes, Moisturises) limited edition, RM35
This was perfect as I was testing it during fasting month and it instantly woke me up and was very refreshing. It’s supposed to be a calming treatment – reduces redness and sensitivity, calming rashes, soothing rosacea, and for any kind of irritation. It really works too as I was having some minor redness and skin irritation, and after spraying at the area, it immediately soothed it and the itchiness went away. It’s also pretty versatile, you can use it as a toner after cleansing and a setting spray before make-up. Said to be a cult favourite among make-up artists and celebrities, this will definitely be a permanent fixture in my bag. – Dzireena Mahadzir
innisfree Green Tea Mineral Mist, RM22
I’ve always loved the feel of spray toners or facial mists on my skin. There’s just something refreshing and pick-me-up about them. When I got hold of this product, which comes in a light, metal canister, I tried it out immediately in the office. The fine droplets, which absorbs into skin quite instantly, gave out a pleasant breezy scent. The facial mist contains organic green tea extract from Jeju Island, South Korea, which helps form a moisture barrier on skin. Some mists tend to leave the skin feeling drier after use but this doesn’t. To be used before or after make-up, it works well to invigorate skin either in dry, air-conditioned spaces or after a hot day out in the sun. – Wong Li Za
