Sephora recently introduced its first ever makeup artist collaboration for Hari Raya with celebrity makeup artist Tiar Zainal, who has worked with top celebrities like Neelofa, Scha Alyahya and Lisa Surihani. Tiar was already a fan of Sephora even before it was available in Malaysia.

“I started buying and using Sephora products around 2005 and I remember being fascinated with their eyeshadow palettes. The colours and the quality of the products are really what attracted me to the brand,” said Tiar after the launch of Sephora’s Glamraya event in Kuala Lumpur.

Born in Perak, Tiar was already honing his makeup artistry while in school, helping family members look beautiful for weddings. The work of this self-taught makeup artist has appeared in editorials of leading local publications.

For the collaboration Tiar created four looks, Edgy Chic, Classic Beauty, Glamorous Queen and Cool Girl, using only Sephora makeup products. He presented the looks to invited guests and media at the event, which was attended by local celebrities such as Scha, Liyana Jasmay and De Fam.

The festive themed evening included intricately designed henna painting by Alena Shukor, customised name calligraphy on Sephora’s Geometrical Blockbuster Palette by Joy Chong and personalised watercolour painted Hari Raya cards by Atie of “Weekendiminlove.”

Celebrity hijab stylist Didiyana Ehsan styled hijabs, with tips on pairing makeup with matching outfits. She niftily twisted and pinned layers of fabric, unveiling various hijab styles.

“When I was invited to be Sephora’s first makeup artist collaborator I was very happy and excited. I’m very lucky and truly appreciate working with Sephora Malaysia,” says Tiar. “I have been a huge fan of Sephora’s cream lip stain and eyeshadow palettes, and have been using them for awhile now. They are also affordable.”

The Glamraya Looks he created will complement any Raya clothing, be it traditional or modern. For day, he recommends the Classic Beauty and Edgy Chic looks whereas the Glamorous Queen and Cool Girl looks are suited for night.

“These looks can be worn by anyone, regardless of ethnicity. Women who are always on the go can wear the Classic Beauty. This is also a look for those who are new to makeup as it’s simple and easy. It uses basic makeup products and this look can never go wrong with any attire.

“If you are a bit more outgoing and adventurous, Cool Girl would be the look to go for. If you’re fearless and hip, try the Edgy Chic look. When you’re in the mood for a little bit of glitz and glam, then be inspired by the Glamorous Queen look.

“In our humid weather it’s important to use products that are oil free and waterproof. Since we sweat easily makeup tends to wear off after a long day especially,” he says.

Anis Syafiraa wears Glamorous Queen. Tiar recommends: Sephora Colorful 5 Eyeshadow Palette N03, Sephora Colorful Shadow & Liner 14 (Violet), Sephora Rouge Lipstick R31 and Sephora Ultra Shine Lip Gel 07.
Myra Zainal wears Classic Beauty.Tiar recommends: Sephora Color Lip Last N19, Sephora Colorful Eyeshadow Sunbleached Palette and Sephora Lasting Eyeliner High Precision Brush.
Liyana Jasmay wears Cool Girl.Tiar recommends: Sephora Cream Lip Stain N27, Sephora Colorful Shadow & Liner 04 (Shimmer Taupe) and 05 (Beige), and Sephora Colorful Shimmer Eyeshadow N225.

To ensure your makeup lasts longer, Tiar says it’s important to prep your skin with the basic skincare routine of cleansing, toning and moisturising, before applying your base make-up.

If you’ve got a totally hectic schedule this Raya and time is really precious, then he says, “A fast and easy make-up look only requires three products, the mascara, blush and lipstick, and you’re good to go!”
