The Year of the Monkey starts on Feb 8, according to the Chinese lunar calendar, and some of the biggest fashion houses are getting involved in the celebrations.
Here are a few pieces that will help you bid goodbye to the Year of the Sheep, and welcome Chinese New Year in style.
The sportswear giant's Chinese New Year Collection features limited editions of the D Lillard 2 and D Rose 6 sneakers, inspired by the symbolic nature of this year's Chinese Zodiac – the “Fire Monkey”.
The footwear features custom fire monkey graphics, tonal prints and vivid colour hits. The D Lillard 2 boasts a fanged fire monkey graphic print and red and gold accents, while the D Rose 6 features a fire red graphic printed on black to reveal the aggressive nature of the fire monkey, alongside gold hits on the eyelets.
In China, the D Rose 6 and the D Lillard are curretnly available with the designs launching globally on Feb 5 at adidas.com and selected retailers.
Kenzo is launching a special capsule collection for Chinese New Year, comprising a range of sweaters and t-shirts. The fun, sparkly and colourful sweaters take on traditional Chinese gold and bright red yarns and embroidery, with the label's tiger and eye icons displayed on black jersey pieces.
British fashion house Burberry has released a curated gift assortment for the Lunar New Year, featuring several of its products in a special colour palette of blues and pinks, together with flashes of red and gold.
The collection includes Scottish-woven cashmere scarves, trench coats for men and women, and the brand's signature tote, The Banner. There are also men's backpacks, leather wallets and cashmere Thomas Bear key charms, and the entire range is now available in-store and on Burberry.com.
The social media-savvy label is also launching an interactive experience on the Chinese platform WeChat, “A Lunar New Year Gift”, allowing users to create and personalise digital Lunar New Year envelopes to send to family to celebrate the holiday. – AFP Relaxnews
