Cartier’s High Jewellery Koinobori Secret Watch

Elegance, class, sophistication and timelessness, that was what was seen at the recent Watches & Wonders 2015 exhibition in Hong Kong.

Held for the third consecutive year now, the luxury timpiece exhibition sees watchmaking maisons featuring their craft, and heritage and cultural expertise.

The event drew more than 20, 000 visitors from around the world who came just to have a look at the watches on display.

Here are some of the the highlights of the haute horlogerie brands:

The Montblanc Heritage Chronométrie ExoTourbillon Vasco da Gama Diamonds watch combines two of the most important chronometric complications: a chronograph to measure the duration of brief intervals and a patented tourbillon construction that includes a stop-second function to ensure absolute precision.

Limited to just 25 pieces, this sophisticated timepiece features elaborative decorative work and is adorned with 76 diamonds.

The Tourbillon Cylindrique Geosphères NightSky watch, another limited edition of 18 pieces, was inspired by Vasco da Gama’s historic expedition.

The watch is an elaborately crafted timepiece featuring fine artisanal details. The striking 18-karat gold dial displays two globes illustrating the passage of days and nights in the northern and southern hemispheres.

This revolutionary timepiece, which unites a cylindrical tourbillon and a uniquely functional worldtime indication, pushes the boundaries of fine watchmaking with its exceptional performance and beauty.

Other Montblanc time pieces unveiled at the event were the Tourbillon Cylindrique Geosphères NightSky Limited Edition, the Heritage Chronométrie Dual Time Vasco da Gama Limited Edition 238, Heritage Chronométrie ExoTourbillon Vasco da Gama Diamonds, Heritage Chronométrie Quantième Annuel Vasco da Gama Diamonds, the Heritage Spirit Perpetual Calendar Sapphire, and Heritage Spirit Date Automatic.

For ladies who love jewellery and watches to keep time, but do not want to have too many accessories on their arms, Cartier’s High Jewellery Koinobori Secret Watch would be the perfect choice.

Designed like a bejewelled bangle, the Koinobori Secret Watch presents an imperceptible balletic journey of carps as represented in a traditional Japanese painting.

A tide of diamonds totalling 16.66 carats for a cuff watch adorned with coloured spots thanks to the presence of sixteen oval rubies of nearly one carat each in subtle nuances of red.

Around a thousand hours’ work was required to create this work of great geometric perfection that evokes the continuous, regular movement of a river.

Other novelties unveiled were Clé de Cartier series, Rotonde De Cartier series, Mysterious Double Tourbillon, Minute Repeater Flying Tourbillon and others like Astrocalendaire, Tourbillon complication, perpetual calendar with circular display Calibre 9459 MC, High Jewellery INCA watch and Cristallin watch.

Renowned for its horological mastery and its creative talent, Jaeger-LeCoultre now wishes to share the fruits of its expertise with a broader public. This is why it is introducing an original collection – The Geophysic line with a pure, uncluttered design, driven by a new Haute Horlogerie calibre encapsulating the inventive spirit of the Manufacture.

The Grande Maison is now choosing to revive this legendary name in two models blending aesthetic elegance, technical sophistication and 21st century user friendliness: the Geophysic True Second and the Geophysic Universal Time.

The Geophysic True Second radiates the kind of stage presence that is the exclusive preserve of great classics.

Its finely grained dial lends added texture and further accentuates the readability of the information provided. The hands and hour-markers stand out clearly against their backdrop.

The vibrant, graphic Geophysic True Second watch comes in steel or pink gold versions, and is adjusted in an extremely intuitive manner.

The crown in its neutral position winds the movement, while position 1 serves to set the jumping hours corresponding to the city where the wearer is currently located, as well as the date, and position 2 controls the hours and minutes.

The compelling Geophysic Universal Time enables simultaneous readings of the time in all 24 time zones by means of its mobile disc.

The city disc with its perfectly readable names is fixed so as to help users get their bearings. The eye soon becomes accustomed to seeing London at 6 o’clock and Hong Kong at 2 o’clock. Epitomising an absolute determination to promote simplification, the time is adjusted via the crown and no longer with a pushbutton.

Once the universal time has been set, there is no need to adjust it while crisscrossing the world. Travellers need only adjust their own time. Local time is automatically adjusted simply by moving the hour hand forwards or backwards, independently of the minutes and seconds to as to avoid any loss of precision.

Other ladies’ watches introduced during the exhibition were the Master Ultra Thin Squelette and Rendez-Vous Ivy series.

The Portofino Hand-Wound Monopusher has a new function that sets itself apart with an ingenious single push-button stopwatch which measures time for up to 60 minutes. The chronograph push-button is integrated in the crown and at glance is virtually invisible.

Despite this additional function, the Portofino Hand-Wound Monopusher remains a uncomplicated timepiece and divulges its functionality only when we look more closely.

Apart from the Portofino Hand-Wound Day & Date series, IWC also unveiled its Portofino Automatic Moon Phase 37 and Portofino Automatic 37 watches.

Highlights for Piager were the Limelight Stella watch and Piaget Emperador Coussin XL Large Moon Enamel Watch.

Others included the Polo Tourbillon Relatif Enamel watch and Emperador Tourbillon XL Miniature Enamel watch. The Piaget Limelight Exceptional Piece features an 18K white gold necklace set with brilliant-cut and baguette-cut diamonds secret watch with black onyx dial.
