Is this a face mask or an alien at NY Fashion Week?

It is always best to look at fashion with an open mind.

A very open mind. And some humour, too.

At the recent New York Fashion Week recently, Givenchy showcased several gorgeous outfits in its Spring/Summer 2016 collection. The French fashion house's artistic director Riccardo Tisci has been receiving praise from tough fashion critics and celebrity fans for the show.

However, for some, what really stood out weren't the lovely dresses but the strange face masks that five models wore while walking down the runway.

Sure, the masks looked intriguing and upon a closer look at the pictures, they were so intricate and beautifully designed. But would anyone actually wear them?

If you are Lady Gaga, no need to answer that question.

Made from pearl beads, fine mesh, studded gems, leather, lace and more, the headpieces were designed by makeup artist Pat McGrath and Tisci for this collection. A few of them were wrapped around the models' ears; there was one that seemed to be glued on to the face, though. (We're sure that's not the case but that is what it looks like from the pictures.)

Check out the pictures from the show and tell us whether or not you would put one of them on your face. Whatever will designers think of next?

Part of the face or part of the dress?

This butterfly-inspired headpiece may complement the dress but would you wear it?

Was this piece glued on to her face and neck?

This headpiece, which can pass off as a headband, does not cover the face and is actually quite beautiful.
