THE latest celebrity to front a Chanel campaign is up-and-coming star Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey.
The 27-year-old beauty, seen in these pages modelling the brand’s high jewellery collection, is a French-Spanish actress and model. She is best known for playing Suzanne in The Sea Wall and the mermaid Syrena in Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, the fourth film in the blockbuster series.
Bergès-Frisbey was born in Barcelona, Spain, to a Spanish father and a French-American mother. Her family moved to Paris, France when she was five years old.
She is fluent in French, Catalan, and Spanish, and has also recently learned to speak English. She made her acting debut in 2007 on French television and has since appeared in films alongside Isabelle Huppert, Vincent Perez, and Daniel Auteuil.
She began modelling in 2010, and made her English language debut the following year in the highly-anticipated Pirates sequel.
Bergès-Frisbey landed the role of Syrena after a whirlwind of auditions in France, Hollywood and Britain. She was personally picked by director Rob Marshall and producer Jerry Bruckheimer, and had to learn to speak English for the role.
During the filming in Hawaii, she was restricted from going out in daylight in order to keep her skin pale.
Now, as she joins the illustrious company of famous folks such as Brad Pitt and Keira Knightley as the face of Chanel, her future is looking as bright as the bling that adorns her.
