Cara Delevingne is up for ‘model of the year’, and other big names battle it out.
THE biggest names in British fashion will go head to head later this year for the top gongs at the annual fashion awards.
Scheduled for Dec 2, the British Fashion Council’s annual awards celebrate the top achievements in the UK’s fashion scene, with nominations going to both British-based and British-born designers.
There’s some exciting competition this year; in particular the womenswear designer of the year award, which sees Phoebe Philo, Alexander McQueen creative director Sarah Burton, and up and coming star Christopher Kane battling it out.
Competition in the menswear stakes has also heated up since Tom Ford’s move to London (the American-born designer is now a resident in the Big Smoke). Ford is up against Burberry creative director (and soon to be CEO) Christopher Bailey, and Kim Jones, who has produced a series of critically and commercially lauded collections for Louis Vuitton.
Another notable battle is the competition between friends (and co-faces of Burberry) Cara Delevingne and Edie Campbell for ‘model of the year’. While last year’s winner Cara has been something of a celebrity darling this year, Edie hit the runways hard in London, Paris, New York and Milan, opening shows for Saint Laurent and Louis Vuitton among many others.
At Vuitton outgoing creative director Marc Jacobs had her appear on the runway daubed in nothing but Stephen Sprouse’s famous graffiti print and sporting a giant headdress. – AFP Relaxnews
