Our salute to International Women's Day 2017 continues with another video in our month-long WOW-Women Do Wonders campaign.
In this compilation put together by Star2 journalists Bervin Cheong, Chester Chin, Julie Teoh and Tan Shiow Chin, we ask everyday Malaysians to reveal whom the most inspiring, influential and important women are in their lives.
Among the women featured in this recording is Phoebe Tan, a solo touring cyclist who sent her message from Iran about the women she's met over there. Tan is on a bicycling journey from Finland to Malaysia. Read about her here: She quit her job and went to see the world on her bicycle.
Prof Dr Cheong Sok Ching, head of the Oral Cancer Research Group at Cancer Research Malaysia, pays tribute to her teenage daughter. You can also read about Dr Cheong's research into potential treatments for oral cancer (by growing oral cancer cell lines in her lab) here: Using Crispr-Cas9 to find vulnerable oral cancer genes for a potential cure.
Paragliding athlete Nadiah Wafa credits Nicole Schmidt, an acro pilot champion at the World Air Games, for encouraging her into the world of extreme sports. Read more about Nadiah here: How to see the world as a solo female traveller and here: ‘I’m just a crazy girl that likes extreme sports’.
And in case you missed it, here's the video that started it all: Datuk Lee Chong Wei, three-time Olympic silver medallist and four-time All-England champion, serving a loving homage to the smashing lady in his life – his missus, the mother of their children and a badminton star herself, Datin Wong Mew Choo.
