Ninety-year-old retiree Chan Yoke Hup can choose to live with her son or her daughter. But Chan cherishes the freedom and independence she enjoys living on her own.

“Despite their persuasions, I prefer to live on my own. But I have to walk slowly and be more careful to avoid falls,” said Chan, who lives in a two-storey link house in Kelana Jaya, Selangor.
