Can you imagine waking up in the morning and having to go out in the fields to scour, pluck and beat up a plant to produce a lip colour?

That is what humans did in prehistoric times. But it was for a different reason. A lip colour would camouflage a hunter’s face and help them blend in with their surroundings to avoid being seen or eaten by their prey.
