Not many people could get away with styling themselves an “ink evangelist”. When Johanna Basford does it, though, it not only seems apt, but deeply in earnest as well. This is, after all, the woman who set in motion the current fervour for adult colouring books with her lush black-and-white illustrations that draw would-be colourists into fantastical worlds of flora and fauna. And she isn’t afraid to preach the gospel of colouring.
“Expressing yourself is good for your soul, and colouring is a great way to introduce people to being creative,” said the 33-year-old illustrator during a recent country-exclusive phone interview from Edinburgh.
