Noorhaiza Mariena Mat Ramli is confident she can now bargain in Mandarin. She can rattle off key phrases like gou wu (to go shopping) and mai (to buy).

It’s no wonder, given that for the last three months, the Wanita Umno executive secretary has been hard at work every Friday night, learning conversational Mandarin.
