Koh Shim Luen paints heritage buildings as remembrance

Koh Shim Luen's Kampung Kling Mosque in Jalan Tukang Emas (aka Harmony Street), Malacca.

The charm of heritage buildings and colonial-era houses in the Straits Settlements, especially in Penang, first captivated Ipoh-born artist Koh Shim Luen some 30 years ago. As a fine art student back then, she visited George Town and took many photographs of the buildings.

Later, those photos became reference points as Koh started painting pre-war buildings in Penang and Malacca, both Unesco World Heritage sites.
