Reese Witherspoon is a woman with her fingers in many pies, and now she can add fashion to her array of professions.
The actress has launched a retail website called Draper James to indulge her love of style and promote her Southern US heritage.
The site offers clothing, accessories and home decor, with an emphasis on bright colors and pretty patterns. The goods on sale are often created by Southern craft workers, artists or designers.
"Women in the South love to dress up," says the star on the new site. "They love color and prints and generally love to look put together. Depending on the occasion, several days of thought can go into one outfit! The South is a very lively, stylish place. There is always a backyard party, a luncheon, or a family celebration that calls for getting dressed up!"
The venture features a special "Made in the South" section, including everything from napkin sets to notepads and stationery. Elsewhere on the site, the collections comprise jewellery ranges.
Clothing ranges include tops, skirts, dresses and knitwear, with an emphasis on feminine styles and vibrant colours.
Oscar winner Witherspoon, whose latest movie Hot Pursuit has just been released in the US, is known for her classic Southern Belle style, favouring a cute and simple look such as jeans and cowboy boots for everyday, waisted skirts and heels for more formal occasions and a more glamorous approach to evening wear.
Of her wardrobe, she says "I love clothes with colour and happy prints because you only get one life, so you might as well make it pretty!"
Witherspoon isn't the only star to dip her toe into the world of online retail. Recent fellow e-entrepreneurs include actress Blake Lively, who launched her store Preserve last year, and American chef and domestic stalwart Martha Stewart.
Recently, it was reported that Witherspoon is co-developing and will be taking the lead role in the film Second Life, which is based on an S.J. Watson novel of the same name.
The movie follows a female protagonist who develops an online persona designed to unlock the truth about her sister’s murder. – AFP Relaxnews
