Review: Crimson Peak

At Crimson Peak, gusts of cold air send eerie groans reverberating through long shadowed hallways on grim evenings.

At some point during Guillermo del Toro’s lavish romantic horror affair, audiences are forced to consider the possibility that the movie doesn’t really hold a solid premise.

Sure, it’s a remarkably gorgeous feature; embellished with fantastic sets and an intricate wardrobe that help construct a decadently indulgent old-fashioned Gothic fantasy. Those markings – coupled with del Toro’s mesmerising visual style – point to the makings of a great ghostly period piece.
