Review: Insidious: Chapter 3

Seance science: ‘I am having difficulty connecting to the spirits ... there is an unbeliever in the room. Oh, it’s you out there in the fifth row of the cinema – stop texting during the movie!’

This prequel does not have as many scares as we’ve come to expect from this series, and less of a clever connection with its predecessors than Chapter 2 had to the first film.

But Insidious: Chapter 3 still holds our attention. Its mandatory family in peril is rather likeable, it offers a transformation of sorts for psychic Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye), and gives us some well-timed and chuckle-worthy comic relief in the form of ghostbusting duo Specs (Leigh Whannell) and Tucker (Angus Sampson).
