Small wins build momentum. Start with just one drawer, one shelf or one cupboard, then grow from there.
Make space for cleaning by going through each room, clearing flat surfaces like countertops and dining tables first. Create a donation bin for unused items.
List all tasks to keep track. Consider focusing on one category per day to avoid feeling overwhelmed.
Involve the whole family, including children. Put on music and use a scavenger hunt approach to find hidden clutter.
Track progress with “before and after” photos to show the difference.
Teach and demonstrate how things are done. Show children how to do tasks such as proper dusting or wiping before expecting them to do it independently.
Assemble all necessary cleaning supplies in a portable caddy to keep them organised and easy to access.
Ask “What stays?” not “What goes?” because focusing on what you love reduces the feeling of being overwhelmed.
