After working as a set designer for TV and theatre, Zoe Hewett wanted to set up her own interior design business, but she didn't have the funds to open her own showroom or make over her home for the purpose.
As a result, the British designer came up with the idea of using a doll's house to show off her creative talents. And so, Stylemongers of Bristol was born.
The Covid-19 pandemic, which made it impossible to visit clients' homes, put a temporary brake on her dreams of expansion. But, not to be defeated, the designer decided to pack all her talent into a box to send out to anyone in need of interior inspiration.
Interviewed by The Guardian, she explains that she wanted to make her services accessible: "I wanted to offer something affordable, at a price point more people could afford."
And by packing all her knowledge into a handy kit, she managed to do just that.
A quiz and a mood board
The kit, designed to fit through a mailbox for ease of mailing, is made with recycled materials. It contains all the information and techniques that the designer would habitually use in face-to-face workshops. From making mood boards for inspiration or working out where to put furniture, the kit contains quizzes to help people explore their options and practical tips, as well as advice on using colour and materials.
