Penfolds Special Bin wines have a special place among Australian and international wine collectors as each release or bottling represent a milestone in the progress of the modern Australian wine industry.
In celebration of the label’s 175 years wine-making heritage, a new, rare wine from the 2016 vintage — Special Bin 111A Clare Valley Barossa Valley Shiraz 2016 — was released.
It has been almost 10 years since Penfolds last released a Special Bin wine, made only in extraordinary circumstances, representing the pinnacle of wine-making endeavour using the most exceptional fruit parcels from the very best regional sources.
The Special Bin 111A is a concentrated wine with balance and character, blended two esteemed South Australian Shiraz vineyards.
It has already lauded a perfect 100-point score from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate for colour and appearance, aroma and bouquet, flavour and finish, and overall quality.
Named after the wine’s oak maturation stack number, Special Bin 111A is the first Special Bin blend of Clare Valley and Barossa Valley with grapes carefully selected from the Botanic Vineyard in Clare Valley and the Gersch Vineyard in Barossa, South Australia.
Penfolds Special Bin 111A Clare Valley Barossa Valley Shiraz 2016 will be available in Malaysia starting in the second half of 2020.
