Do human medicines and natural remedies also work on pets? It works for me, so won't it work for my dog or cat?
Our four-legged friends react completely differently to remedies designed for the human body. Experts say you should never give your pet your own medicine.
Medicines meant for humans can be very dangerous to pets.
That goes even for what might be thought of as natural home remedies, such as tea tree oil. Just a few drops can be extremely poisonous to cats, the German animal protection charity Aktion Tier warns.
Tranquillisers and hormones can also be harmful to animals, in the worst cases leading to internal bleeding, neurological problems, vomitting or diarrhoea.
That's why owners should never treat animals with their own medicines but take their pets to the vet. – dpa
