Ancient Secrets: The space to be in to be at peace

Our moods, emotions and feelings are influenced by the energy that resonates in the space we occupy permanently or temporarily.

It is vital for the enclosed atmosphere of our work and stay to be in sync with the vigour so that everyone there can enjoy harmony, improved well-being and have a fruitful day.

However, if the energy projected by the ambience is not in balance, dwellers can experience anger, irritability, disturbed mood, failure and have a lousy day.

Events that take place in our life daily are sometimes beyond our control but we can take charge if we are at peace with ourselves and the environment that governs us.

Experiencing some high and low periods daily are normal and if we can occupy the favourable locations in a house or office we will be able to perfect our imbalance linked to the five elements of ether, fire, water, air and earth and the planets that rules our space.

This is because each element and related planet command a specific quadrant that can impact the way we think, speak, make decisions and conduct ourselves daily.

In the Indian science of architecture called Vasthu Sastra our body and the area we inhabit must be aligned in peace so that we can achieve the desired results we are seeking for daily.

Influence of the elements on the five locations


The south-east is the fire quadrant in Vasthu and moon controls this area.

If you are a person who is quick tempered or hyper active, he or she should avoid this space or it will make the individual to become more aggressive, and experience stress and tension.

Couples should avoid this area completely or they will be in disagreement, disharmony and have difficult relationship.

This zone is more suitable for people who are introvert, shy and lack confidence.

Working or sleeping in the south-east for such people can boost their self-assurance and would encourage them to cope with situations positively.

Highly recommended for children who are being treated for autism or slow leaner.

Guests and maid can use this space.

In an office the south-east should be given to those dealing in sales and marketing.

Generally, those having defects in the south-east like have a water feature in the fire corner will have an enraged personality.

Those born under the moon sign of Tula (Libra) and Vrischika (Scorpio) must avoid staying in south facing properties or they will face challenges in the health and well-being.


The Mercury represents the north-east and occupying this space give rise to purified thoughts, enhanced thinking power and wise decision making.

The Water element rules this quadrant.

This section which receives the first sun rays into any property is reserved for spiritual and conscious living activities and developments.

The ideal use of this space in a house is for prayer, meditation and study because it gives energy, strength and build self-confidence.

Children particularly boys are encouraged to occupy the north-east to give them grounding and courage.

Husband and wife should stay away from the north-east or it can create mood related issues.

In an office this space is suitable for the finance manager and accounting staffs.


Air controls the north-west quadrant and those who are adventurous and like outdoor activities should grab this quadrant.

The celestial planet Kethu (dragon tail) controls this area which is suitable for children to occupy in a house.

People having air related problem like respiratory, gas and stomach bloated problems must not occupy this space.

Those prone to mood disorder should also stay away from the north-west or they will inconsistent and have problems in making decisions.

In an office this space is more suitable as the reception or waiting area or pantry.


Earth grounds this space which is regarded as one of the most power places in Vasthu.

Governed by Rahu (dragon head) people occupying this area will be commanding, in control and demanding.

They will have the capacity to influence others to follow their thoughts and ways.

The master of the house or married couples should occupy this area and they will enjoy bonding, confidence and power.

Children, maids and guests must not be given the south-west to occupy or the breadwinner will not be able to manage the family.

In an office the boss or directors should sit in the south-west to manage the business successfully.

Having other employees using this space can affect office harmony, create dissatisfaction and industrial dispute.

If there is a defect like a water feature in the south-west, occupants in the property may face financial losses and have no peace of mind.


Ether and the sun controls this quadrant which is regarded as the weakest area in any property.

People should avoid sleeping or working in the centre of any property which does not promote wellness.

Those using such a space will feel that they are under constant threat, unhappy and uncertainty.

The middle of the property should be left unoccupied to allow free flow of energy in and out of the space.

Having flaws in the centre like a staircase or toilet located there can cause misery to the dwellers.
