It's National Panda Day today (March 16), which may not be an international day of the year, but we're celebrating it nonetheless!
Giant pandas are native to the mountain ranges in central China, but deforestation has driven the bears out of the lowland areas. There are now fewer than 2,000 pandas on the planet, including a couple of hundred in captivity inside China and in zoos around the world. So yes, they are listed as "threatened" and "vulnerable" on the conservation status list.
