The things we buy may be closely connected to the survival of endangered animals.

The hidden danger to wildlife can be linked to everyday imported consumer goods. Things such as an espresso coffee in Beijing, or a tofu salad in Chicago can now be pinpointed and measured, researchers said.

Doing the calculations based on huge amounts of data, researchers have found a global "threat map" detailing the impact on endangered animals of exports to the United States, China, Japan and the European Union.
