At the last weekly tea session of the golden girls club of which I am a member, one of the ladies suggested that we embark on a charity drive this Christmas. She had been approached by an orphanage whose funds were running low and they desperately needed some Christmas cheer for the 30 orphans of school-going age.
So we visited the orphanage and spoke to the caregivers. First on the list were school uniforms and shoes. The orphans had outgrown their uniforms and the hand-me-downs that were donated to them were all in a sorry state.
